Event Diary

Wincanton Film Society, not only provides regular film screenings for it's supporters. We also get involved in outside events in and around our community. This was built into the very foundations of the Society when it was being set up. In the early days this seemed very hard to do. We offered our services where possible, but ther was no take-up. However in this current year 2007/8 we have broken the duck and gone into hyperdrive. Or at least that's how it feels. The following is a chronological order of events that have already takem place, right up to the very latest event that is due to take place in April 2008. The most current event is always shown at the top of the list.

Recent Events:

April 27th 2008 - South West Spring Regional Viewing
WFS played host to committee members of film societies from all over the South west. This was a major opportunity for committee members to view prospective fims for the 2008/9 season.

This was the first time WFS had been involved in such a venture. In this screening we were partnered by Yeovil Cinematheque, and the day was a tremendous success. We look forward to the next time.

February 2008 - Bruton Youth Club
Another totally different evening with a quality film for the youth of Brution. Light in numbers, but we hope that word will get round and that they will be able to use such events to galvanise young people in the community.

November 2007 - Ansford Youth Club
Again the fearless team packed up the gear and put on a screening for the youth of Ansford and Castle Cary. Now that was a night to remember. This was not your typical quiet evening wanting a good movie. It was loud and buzzing. Difficult to imagine anyone actually taking in what the movie was about, but seems like they enjoyed it and want us back.

Autumn 2007 - Dorset Screen Bites
We packed up the gear and took to the roads throughout Dorset with Gay Pirrie-Weir and Fanny Charles of Dorset Screen Bites. In one month we erected our equipment and screened major films in every conceivable size and shape of village hall, in most nooks and crannies of Dorset. It was a great experience, and allowed us to become even more familiar with the workings of our equipment.

As always there is a downside to most things. We were forced to endure the torchure of having to sample a bucket load of food samples from local food producers throughout Dorset. What a bummer. Never let it be said that your technical team was not up to the challenge.
